About Participation in the GAP Study
If you or the person in your care appears to be eligible, a clinic visit will be scheduled. At this visit, you or the person in your care will be able to discuss the study with the study doctor or a member of the site staff. The study doctor or staff member will explain any possible benefits and risks that participation may involve, and will answer any questions that you or the person in your care may have about the study.
Throughout the study, you or the person in your care will receive the following, at no cost:
- Study-related care and monitoring.
- Study drug (either IVIg or placebo). The first three infusions will be given at the study clinic, and the remainder will potentially be administered at the participant's home by a medical professional.
- Clinic visits. These visits will occur every three months while the participant is receiving his or her assigned study drug. At each clinic visit, the participant will receive physical and neurological exams, and will also undergo cognitive evaluations to determine his or her progress in the study.
Participation in the GAP Study will last approximately 82 weeks. You or the person in your care will be randomly assigned to receive either IVIg or a placebo and will have a random, 2-in-3 chance of receiving IVIg.
Please note: In this study, IVIg will be evaluated alongside standard-of-care medications for Alzheimer's – so GAP Study participants will not have to stop taking their Alzheimer's medications.
At every study clinic visit, the participant's health and progress in the study will be evaluated. All study procedures will be carried out under the close supervision of your study doctor or another qualified healthcare professional.
